What is Rehabilitation?
What is rehabilitation? It can oftentimes be thought of as similar to physical therapy, but there are minor differences. Rehabilitation is used to improve quality of life by restoring the body’s natural movement. Physical therapy is typically the treatment of a specific disease or injury with the use of manual therapies. Through the use of rehabilitation, we can help you get back to a pain free life, improve the area that is bothering you, and help the surrounding tissues. Movements are prescribed to each individual, so every patient’s rehabilitation plan looks different. Depending on what your typical day looks like, these movements are given to help counteract the damage done during a normal week day. This way, you can continue your life without pain, lack of range of motion, or inability to perform certain tasks.
What Will Rehabilitation Look Like for Me?
At Health with Hope Chiropractic, our focus is on creating small lifestyle changes that can prevent future pain, improve daily life, and provide the tools necessary to stop future injury. We pride ourselves on prescribing movements that are easy to incorporate in each individual's life. No two people will have the same prescribed movements. Given exercises are all simple and meant to be done daily to prevent pain in the future and resolve injury.
How Will I Benefit from Rehabilitation?
Things that can improve with the use of rehabilitation:
- Flexibility
- Risk of falling
- Coordination
- Strength
- Balance
- Pain
- Mood
How Long Will Rehabilitation Take?
Although we love to see you, our job is to solve what’s causing your pain, and provide a plan that will prevent you from coming in with the same problem.
Typical movements given to patients are ones that can be easily incorporated while at work throughout the day. Because we tend to have chronic pain due to the work we do throughout the week, I want you to have tools to use that will help you. These movements are always simple stretches or motions that can be done at a desk, while standing, or can be easily done before going to bed. Small changes can bring great reward.
How Will I Maintain Rehabilitation When I Leave Your Office ?
Every motion that is prescribed to you will be demonstrated at the time of your appointment so that you don’t leave feeling lost or hopeless. After a demonstration is performed, you will try the movement with guidance so that any errors are corrected. Once you leave, you’ll receive an email with a video demonstrating the movement to look back at once at home. We understand you have a busy life and don’t expect you to remember every single thing at your appointment. The videos sent in your email are always 2 minutes or less because we know you’re busy and we value your time. If you don’t like the movement prescribed to you or something doesn’t feel right, make sure to bring this up at your next appointment. Every exercise can be switched with something different. We’d rather you say something so that you can be given a motion that better suits you and your lifestyle if the first one doesn’t work for you.
